SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Leveraging VDC and BIM in Design-Build
DESCRIPTION:Important Update \nThis Event Has Been Postponed \nPlease be advised this event originally scheduled for March 26\, 2026\, at Syska Hennessy is being postponed. \nOur team is working closely with our speakers and host to coordinate a new date that ensures the same high-quality experience and CEH credit opportunities for all attendees. \nFor Registered Attendees: If you have already registered\, your spot is secured and your registration will remain valid for the rescheduled date. We will reach out directly as soon as the new date is finalized. \nWe appreciate your patience and continued support of the DBIA NYC Metro Region as we finalize these details. Stay tuned for further updates! \nIf you have any questions or would like to request a refund\, don’t hesitate to contact Alison@dbianycmetro.org \n_______________________________________________________________________________________________ \nBuilding Information Modeling (BIM) is a tool or the model-based technologies that produce a building information model that enables a highly collaborative Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) process throughout a project’s lifecycle. When combined\, project teams can take advantage of a forward-thinking environment where the integration of people\, process and technology can thrive. The whole team approach inherent in Design-Build is an ideal environment for BIM/VDC to flourish (more than any other project delivery system)\, especially when you can take advantage of an integrated project team from the outset\, creating a platform for success\, where all the client’s goals can be embraced early. In addition to highlighting DBIA’s approach to VDC Done Right we’ll also hear from innovative VDC Leaders who will provide real-world examples of how VDC is driving value by enabling the merging of technology and project delivery to provide optimized outcomes for Owners. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nOutline how BIM/VDC can produce enhanced design excellence\, increased quality and productivity\, and improved lifecycle cost.\nUnderstand how real-time model-based collaboration can enable design-build teams to stay on budget and exceed schedule expectations.\nDefine the value of having a VDC Leader engaged in the early planning phase of the project.\nDescribe how a focus on digital deliverables and what the owner needs and when can provide value post-construction.\n\nEarn one (1) DBIA CEH credit. \n*Food and refreshments will be served. \n________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nRegister Now\n________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nSPONSORED BY\n \n  \n \n________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nMeet the Panelists\nIan Carney\, AIA\nSenior Virtual Design and Construction Manager – New England\nGilbane Building Company\n \nIan Carney is a Sr. VDC Manager at Gilbane and a registered architect in Massachusetts. Ian previously worked as a carpenter and furniture builder with a focus on digital fabrication and computational design. The common theme that drives his work is a desire to connect the strengths that technology affords with the builders\, fabricators\, and craftspeople that bring design and construction projects to life. Ian holds a Bachelors of Architecture from California Polytechnic Institute San Luis Obispo. \n  \nShane Walton\, AIA\, LEED AP\, LSSYB\nPrincipal\, Office Technical Leader\nHKS \nShane serves as a Principal and NYC Office Technical Leader at HKS. With over 22 years of professional experience\, primarily in Healthcare design for both domestic and international projects\, he has worked as a designer\, project architect\, project manager\, and BIM manager\, while also leading efforts to improve BIM and project delivery standards\, workflows\, and efficiencies. With a specialization in building enclosure\, infrastructure\, and modular systems design and coordination\, Shane continually strives to learn\, grow\, and apply these collective skills and experiences to each new project. \n \nRobert Ioanna\, PE\, LEED AP\nExecutive Principal\nSyska Henessey Group\n \nMr. Robert Ioanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Binghamton University in New York. He serves as the Chief Technical Officer and a board member at Syska Hennessy Group\, where he leads all aspects of the firm’s technical and commercial delivery. Mr. Ioanna founded Syska Innovations with the original intent of investing in seed-stage companies and piloting their software and products. Over time\, he expanded the initiative to foster ideation and technological\ndevelopment within Syska while driving his team to remain at the forefront of developments in artificial intelligence and related\ntechnologies. \n  \n \nSal D’Ambrosia\nDirector of Construction Technology\nWm. Blanchard Co. \nSal D’Ambrosia is Director of Construction Technology at Wm. Blanchard\, where he leads virtual construction as an operational driver\, not a support function. With more than 20 years of field experience combined with another 20 years in virtual construction\, he focuses on aligning design intent with real world execution. Sal advocates for design build teams that treat the model as a jobsite tool\, driving coordination\, accountability\, and smarter decisions earlier. A national speaker and industry voice\, he challenges silos and pushes construction technology to serve the people building the work. \n___________________________________________________________\nMeet the Moderator\n Brian Skripac\, DBIA\, CM-BIM\, LEED AP\nDirector\, Virtual Design & Construction\nDesign-Build Institute of America \nBrian\, a Bachelor of Science in Architecture graduate from The Ohio State University\, is responsible for shaping how VDC brings optimal benefits to design-build’s “whole team” approach to project delivery. As a Digital Construction innovator\, Brian has spent the last 20 years of his career defining how people\, processes and technology come together to transform collaborative project delivery. In addition\, he leads the creation and advancement of best practices related to the integration of BIM-enabled technologies and other innovative digital tools to enhance design-build team performance and while generating significant lifecycle benefits for projects across the built environment. \n________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nFormat: In-Person \nIf you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to contact Education@dbia.org. \nLocation: Syska Hennessy 1185 Avenue of the Americas\, New York\, NY 10036
