DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE EVENT \nJoin the DBIA NYC Metro Region for our an annual forum hosted by the SBEG Committee to address small business companies qualifications and reasons why Owners and Construction Managers should take note and bring them into their Design-Build projects. \nThis year we will also like to tackle ‘Barriers to Participation’\, and Access to Teams & Networking’ in an effort to seamlessly merge with the right team from the onset. \nAttendees will get to learn from six seasoned NY/NJ firms that undertake Design-Build delivery locally. They will share details about their businesses\, what services they offer\, how they position and team\, what are some of the constraints to entry\, what value these specialized firms bring to Design Build delivery in NY/NJ. The moderated panel discussion will be moderated by New York State Public Agency DASNY\, a major owner/client who is readily into alternative delivery. Rodriguez\, President and CEO\, DASNY \nRobert J. Rodriguez was confirmed by the New York State Senate on May 22\, 2024 as DASNY’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He served as New York’s 67th Secretary of State from 2021 to 2024 and as a member of DASNY Board of Directors. Mr. Rodriguez represented Assembly District 68 in the New York State Assembly for 11 years\, where he was Co-Chair of the Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment\, founding Chair of the Assembly Sub-Committee on Infrastructure\, and Member of the Committees on Ways and Means\, Housing\, Labor\, Banking\, Corporations and Authorities\, and Mental Health. Her latest portfolio focuses on project/program delivery at Aviation where she worked on EWR airport’s new Terminal A project to advance completion of airline back-office spaces and lounges\, asset management\, ConRAC garage and rental car fit-outs. She currently oversees sustainability\, technology\, revenue\, and customer experience portfolio at Aviation spanning all five PA airports in NY-NJ area. \nAs part of her sustainability portfolio\, she oversaw installation of 4 MW AC / 5 MW DC solar installation on ConRAC garage which is one of the largest single-roof solar installations at any airport along with installation of numerous EV charging stations\, eGSE chargers and implementation of energy efficiency measures across all airports for Port Authority to meet its 2025 greenhouse gas reduction targets. In 2024\, she delivered PA’s first net zero ready building – EWR’s Building 1 – that provided a model for future PA buildings to be converted to net zero. \nShe has extensively leveraged design-build mechanism for delivery of these projects. She currently serves as Senior Program Director in Amtrak’s Capital Delivery Department\, where she manages major capital investments and strategic infrastructure programs\, including Amtrak’s interest in the Hudson Tunnel Project\, one of the most significant transportation initiatives in the United States. \nSince joining Amtrak in 2012\, Messick has held leadership roles spanning planning\, program management\, stakeholder engagement\, communications\, and project governance. She directed planning efforts to expand trans-Hudson rail capacity\, led procurement of major engineering contracts\, managed multimillion-dollar capital portfolios\, and established governance\, controls\, and program management frameworks to strengthen delivery of complex infrastructure investments. \nMost recently\, Messick was appointed Amtrak’s owner’s representative for the development of a new Midwest Maintenance Facility in Chicago\, to be delivered through a public-private partnership. In this role\, she oversees the delivery of a critical asset supporting Amtrak’s national operations. \nPrior to joining Amtrak\, Messick spent 12 years at the Regional Plan Association\, where she directed America 2050\, a nationally recognized initiative focused on infrastructure investment\, megaregional planning\, and high-speed rail policy. She testified before Congress\, led major policy and research efforts\, and convened business\, civic\, and government leaders on transportation and economic development issues.
