DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE EVENT \nJoin the DBIA NYC Metro Region for our an annual forum hosted by the SBEG Committee to address small business companies qualifications and reasons why Owners and Construction Managers should take note and bring them into their Design-Build projects. \nThis year we will also like to tackle ‘Barriers to Participation’\, and Access to Teams & Networking’ in an effort to seamlessly merge with the right team from the onset. \nAttendees will get to learn from six seasoned NY/NJ firms that undertake Design-Build delivery locally. They will share details about their businesses\, what services they offer\, how they position and team\, what are some of the constraints to entry\, what value these specialized firms bring to Design Build delivery in NY/NJ. Listen and learn as they describe successes\, as well as some of the pitfalls\, watch-it notes\, and lessons learned. The moderated panel discussion will be moderated by New York State Public Agency DASNY\, a major owner/client who is readily into alternative delivery. Rodriguez\, President and CEO\, DASNY \nRobert J. Rodriguez was confirmed by the New York State Senate on May 22\, 2024 as DASNY’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He served as New York’s 67th Secretary of State from 2021 to 2024 and as a member of DASNY Board of Directors. Mr. Rodriguez represented Assembly District 68 in the New York State Assembly for 11 years\, where he was Co-Chair of the Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment\, founding Chair of the Assembly Sub-Committee on Infrastructure\, and Member of the Committees on Ways and Means\, Housing\, Labor\, Banking\, Corporations and Authorities\, and Mental Health. Mr. Rodriguez held positions at Public Financial Management\, A.C. Advisory\, Inc and Bloomberg L.P. As a civic leader\, Mr. Rodriguez served on several volunteer boards including as Chairman of Manhattan Community Board 11 and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. He is also an emerging leader of the New America Alliance and the Council for Urban Professionals (CUP) Fellow. Mr. Rodriguez earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Yale University and a Master’s in Business Administration in Finance from New York University’s Stern Business School. \n  \n  \nOUR PANEL \n  \nMildred Tolentino\, Founder and President\, M To-Pros \n\nMildred Tolentino is the Founder and President of M To-Pros Development Inc.\, a certified MWBE/DBE/SBE and DBIA member construction consulting firm serving public and private sector clients. An award-winning professional recognized with multiple industry honors\, she brings over 20 years of experience in architecture\, project management\, construction management\, and Design-Build delivery. Mildred has led multidisciplinary teams on healthcare\, infrastructure\, education\, commercial\, and government projects\, overseeing project controls\, scheduling\, estimating\, and stakeholder coordination. Her experience includes managing complex\, fast-track\, and occupied projects with a combined construction value exceeding $500 million. \n  \n\n  \n\nPhoebe Douglas\, Co-Founder & Co-CEO\, Modern Engineering \n  \nPhoebe Douglas\, PE\, ENV SP\, WEDG\, is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of M.D. Modern Engineering\, D.P.C.\, a New York City–based\, certified MWBE and DBE civil engineering firm delivering site-civil and infrastructure support for public agencies\, utilities\, and prime consultants across New York and New Jersey. She consults on capital projects across the government\, healthcare\, education\, commercial\, and hospitality sectors\, specifying sustainable materials and best-practice solutions that bridge the gap between design and construction. \nBetty has completed extensive DBIA coursework and was featured on the DBIA blog for her insights advising Young Professionals in design-build delivery. She holds CID\, GREEN AP\, and DBIA credentials\, and Brano Design carries MBE\, M/WBE\, SBE\, DBE\, and WOSB certifications. \nBetty works with federal agency stakeholders\, procurement officers\, owners\, and developers on design-build projects nationally\, with an active international expansion into Canada\, the UK\, and Ghana. \nAs Founder and President\, Betty leads day-to-day operations with a focus on business development\, strategic partnerships\, and delivering winning outcomes for her clients — while remaining deeply committed to sourcing sustainable approaches to building design and construction. \nPrior to founding Brano Design\, Betty spent a decade as a Project Manager at Merrill Lynch\, developing expertise in project planning\, job cost analysis\, and contract negotiation.
