Co-hosted with AIA, Grace Lin, AIA, CDT, DBIA (Turner & Townsend) and Larry Gutterman, AIA, DBIA, LEED AP (Urbahn Architects PLLC) of the DBIA New York City Region Designers’ Committee, in collaboration with Bria Donohue, Director of Government Affairs, and Eve Michel.
AIA, of AIA New York, and AIA NY’s Public Architecture Committee, organized a full morning set of three moderated panels attended by over 180 AEC professionals. The program started with an opening discussion by Eve Michel AIA and Gia Mainiero AIA DBIA (Partner at Dattner Architects) on Design Excellence and links to DBIA National Design Excellence Guidelines. Then two moderated panels followed, (i) for the Owners perspective, speakers included Daphne Lasky of NYCDDC, Linda Tonn of MTA, Russell Kriegel of PANYNJ, Jennifer Steacy of NYCEDC. The moderator was Michael Plottel of AIANY Committee, and (ii) for the Design-Build contractors’ perspective, speakers include Ravi Bhatia of Skanska, James Winters of Skanska, Andy Gale of Tishman, Patrick Askew of McKissack, Sam Hodgkinson of Consigli Construction. The moderator was Craig Covil of DBIA NYC Metro Region. Sold out event; Lots of questions from audience that over ran time. AIA has subsequently committed to hosting a DBIA 3-day Certification course for architects at their NYC venue this Fall. AIA Brooklyn would like to do a joint event with us later this year. Students were given free access to this educational event.
