Rehabilitation and Modernization of NYC Subway Stations Using Design-Build Delivery

December 18, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Enhanced Station Initiative (ESI) was an ambitious program to rehabilitate and enhance existing New York City Subway stations under an aggressive schedule using Design-Build contracts, a delivery method not previously used by NYC Transit. This virtual presentation will elaborate on the execution of the program, beginning with the decision to use Design-Build delivery, development of the RFP documents, the bid phase and the post-award process.

You will learn:

  • How Design-Build delivery can be effective when opportunities for creativity are limited and the Owner has specific aesthetic requirements.
  • How to develop the request for proposal documents.
  • How to incentivize contractors to maximize quality and reduce design and construction schedules.
  • How to develop a design review program for multiple concurrent projects.
